Welcome to The Queensberry Rules boxing blog at its new home, Bloguin. Purdy, ain’t it?

If you’re not familiar with the blog, here’s the deal: I write about boxing once a day or thereabouts, and as a boxing evangelist, I try to write for both the casual fan  -- for instance, see the “boxing basics tutorial” in the menu bar – and the cognoscenti. Content varies in form from previews and results of all the big fights to round-ups of boxing news, and thematically from meta-analysis of how boxing is perceived in the wider world to video of the heavyweight champion of the world talking about his boner.

I’ve written for Ring magazine, the Bible of Boxing, and been called “indispensable” by David Roth of The Wall Street Journal. I’ve also received death threats from cultish fans of specific boxers I’ve criticized, and the promise of physical violence from boxing writers I’ve mocked.  I may be irreverent, but I have a deep and abiding respect for boxers and the immense dedication it takes to be even the lowest man on the totem pole in “the hardest game.” I don’t have any illusions of objectivity, but I tell it like I see it when I evaluate fighters in the ring – it’s based on what they do in the ring, rather than whether I like watching them or what I make of the gun charges they’re currently facing.

I take a ton of pride in the community feel we’ve built up here. The regular readers humble me with how intelligent and witty they are, and reading the comments section, I can say with no false modesty, often leaves me thinking, “Damn, I wish I thought of that/said it that way!” By all means, join in on the discussion. What I write should be only the starting point for debate and commentary, served up to you so that I may benefit in return from your insights.

If you are familiar with the blog, I have both good news and bad news about the switch from MVN (to whom I remain grateful for giving me a platform and my start in blogging for a network). The good news is that I expect things to go a good deal more smoothly than they have been going for the last many months. Your patience has been greatly appreciated. Also, look at how purdy the new site is! The folks at Bloguin have put together a very attractive site, and it’s been a breeze working with them.

The bad news is that every transition inevitably has its hiccups, so I request your patience for just a little while longer. The archives from the old site have made or are making their transition to the new site as we speak, but lost in the transition are all comments previously left on blog entries. That means we’ve lost all the aforementioned insights from readers. It also means there’s no evidence that I ever had an argument with a dude who 1. thought I invented a commenter to make it appear as though more people agreed with me than did, only for 2. that dude to subsequently pretend to be the “invented” commenter in order to make it look like more people disagreed with me – and then, when I busted him, he 3. acted like I was the crazy one. You can’t replicate comedy like that.

Anyway, hit me with feedback on how things are going for you on the new site, good or ill, and if it’s ill, I’ll get right on fixing it. In the meantime, we’ll resume our normal blogging schedule post-haste. When, I wonder, are we going to get the freaking pay-per-view figures for Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto, a fight that has made considerable waves in the sports universe? Who’s gonna win Saturday’s super middleweight clash between Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler, the final fight in the first round of Showtime’s innovative Super Six tournament? And what tidbits shall we ruminate upon in Friday’s regular Quick Jabs column, where I throw all the news that wasn’t previously fit to print?
