The article speaks as if Floyd aggressively wanted to fight Shane... Floyd is his own boss and don't care what the fans like to watch.. Given the choice, I guess he'll pick Ivan... he was just forced to fight otherwise even his minions will agree that he is the biggest ducker of all times. - ikawpipa

Mayweather vs Mosley

Both Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley were bred to be fighters like a farmer’s prized horse. Both guys grew up with boxing gloves hanging from their crib ceilings. The debating can go on and on forever. The bottom line is neither guy is going to give you an inch – both fighters are relaxed in the ring, comfortable and fluid in such a way that it’s easy to believe boxing pumps through their veins in absence of blood. Mayweather vs Mosley im really looking forward to. Mayweather looked untouchable against the smaller Marquez and Mosley was awesome against Margarito. That fight was 18 months ago and previous to that Mosley looked ordinary against a washed up Mayorga. So is Shane still in top nick? I see Mosley starting fast using his jab to take the early rounds. Floyd usually starts slowly but will take control around round 5. The usual dropping of the shoulder and lightning counter punching will take Floyd home to a points victory and hopefully setting up the fight with Manny. - mayweather-mosley

Just found out that Ikes brother was the first person from Ghana to win a medal for boxing in the olympics. It was in 1960.

And his dad had 5 wives and 26 kids. - edub

Funny how people are knocking Floyd and Shane for not looking at Clottey or Paul Williams as an opponent.

Im guessing you guys dont remember when Pac man was talking about going up to 154 for another title against....Yuri Foreman. Not Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, but the great Yuri Foreman.

Color me excited, but with tempered expectations. And not just becuase I still have a pair of Mosely/Berto tix sitting in my desk drawer never to be used.

My initial instinct: the layoff + SSM's age + the fact that "how good" he looked against Margs may to some degree be illusory under the circumstances = PBF by decision in a fight that wont necessarily go down in the history books. And I'm not even delving into the Machiavellian GBP business shenanigans which could influence the outcome of the fight.

What does it say about the sport that nearly all of the names mentioned on that old cover (except for Ike and Angel Manfredy (still trying to figure out what sensational comeback they are referring to-- perhaps his win over Gatti) are still in the game today? And what really happened to Ike? - willfrank

lol mosley did avoid clottey.. he was worried of clotteys balloning up to 170.. just google one of his interviews, they were in negotiations then suddenly clottey is out of the picture.. a lot of peeps bought shane's BS.. he is desperate for money all this talk about legacy and will only fought the best ..is crap.. he didnt even mentions pauls name.. even clottey..

pac vs clottey is much more exciting and intriguing.. we all know what floyd would bring...

Thanks for bringing some sanity to the table. This is a major, major fight. Very few guys in boxing are recognizable to casual fans and Floyd and Shane are both in that category. Both also happen to be near the top of all P4P lists. It will be a big event and an important fight.

@ts - Thanks for the info. I guess one really good undercard fight is better than none but why not all good undercard fights? Or at least more legitimate showcases, I like seeing guys who are still prospects but for a fight this size the undercard guys should be champs at lower weights or already contenders. I just don't want a repeat of the Pacquiao-De la Hoya undercard...

Hey people! We know it's a little late and a little unfortunate that Shane might not be in the perfect shape coming to the fight, but this is really a quality match up. Floyd and Shane are considered the best in the sports for so long. Now, that alone is a reason to look forward to this fight.

I'm not that excited anymore but this fight is IMPORTANT!
Conspiracy theories are kinda tiring especially when we never are able to prove anything.

Maybe they can get the other Buffer to announce (the one who does UFC). He could change up his intro to make "It's ABOUT time!"

I have no idea why people are hating on this fight. How many times in the history of boxing (or at least since there have been overall P4P lists), have two guys in the Top 3 fought each other? It's pretty rare. - JB

A Duel decade in the making you say Mr. Starks? I'd say it's a decade too late. None of the fighters involved would take credit by beating each other. If Mosley wins, people will finally see who Mayweather really is, nothing but a glorified journeyman. If Mayweather wins, Mosley is way too old who is nearing 40 and should have retired a long time ago (right after Margarito). Anyways, even at the twilight of his career, Mosley should be in the SAFE BRITTLE HANDS of Mayweather and should expect no hurt non- whatsoever coming his way in this bout. Hmmm... How exciting!!:D - WTF??!!

what bothers me is the corrupt system in boxing apparatus.
1) Are we going to see the live random testing or is it just a protocol to cover up for the pacman's lawsuit?
2) Is this a scripted fight where GBP is the producer?( given that Mosley needs some good money to hang his gloves up)
3) Are any of the judges bribed enough to score the fight for Mayweather given the fact that he needs an advantage to fight the Pacman?(he is the bigger cash cow compared to Mosley)
These questions really make me skeptical about this bout assuming no pull out from mayweather(whatever the reason is)prior to the fight.
Any thoughts? - Mohamedk

The mag cover has floated around on a couple sites. Just was looking for the right moment to use it myself.

Saul Alvarez is going to be on the undercard; this I know, for it has been reported widely. I've also read rumors to the effect that GBP wants at least one really good undercard fight. If they do that -- maybe even if they don't -- 1.5 mil is very much in the ballpark. - Tim Starks

Looking at the bigger picture however, the Mayweather-Mosley match-up may augur well for the Filipino WBO welterweight champion. The fight itself will afford Team Pacquiao, led by indefatigable head trainer Freddie Roach, to identify and assess the strengths and weaknesses of both fighters (especially the boxer now based in Las Vegas). Mayweather’s ring tendencies have been gradually studied by Roach while speed and power are Mosley’s main arsenals in the business, not so different from Pacquiao’s style which has bulldozed his opponents the last five years.
In the end, it lays a wonderful blueprint for Roach to dissect all angles to defeat either fighter. - Guest

GUYS if you hate boring don't watch the fight I'm sure it'll bored you to death
better watch WWE the blood is real but the same scripted event, you know who will win if Mosley knocks floyd then it's an accident it's not a part of the circus
just wait for the result and watch for round 12 in youtube to save money it's just the same it won't excite you - PACLANDER

I know the long layoff for Shane is unfortunate but Floyd did look pretty outstanding coming off his long layoff in his last fight, smaller opponent or no. I don't see how anyone can complain against this matchup, you just don't get two top 4 (at worst) pound for pound guys together in the ring too often.

That said, am I being greedy in hoping that the undercard lives up to the main event? What's the over/under on buys for this, about 1.5 million? This is another opportunity to do good by the sport. I'd love to see a good 140 pound matchup on the undercard, GBP represents a number of those guys. There's also a lot of good guys around featherweight, Chris John is with GBP, right? Maybe Robert Guerrero-Katsidis could be the co-feature, that fight has been talked about for the spring. Am I insane?

Great find on the magazine cover. I think it says a lot about both of these guys that they have both stayed near the top of the sport nearly all this time and now, all these years later, they'll finally meet. I can't wait.
